Biography

Bridging Clinical Research and Strategic Expertise

Patrick S. Weston, MD, MBA is a physician-scientist with more than two decades of experience as a principal investigator on industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical trials. His clinical and research work spans cardiometabolic disease, metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), cardiovascular outcomes, obesity medicine, and GLP-1 therapeutics — areas that now define the leading edge of pharmaceutical development and complex litigation alike.

Dr. Weston has served as principal investigator on more than 100 industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated trials across Florida, Texas, Arizona, and Illinois, partnering with global pharmaceutical sponsors including Pfizer, Merck, Eli Lilly, AstraZeneca, GSK, and others. That breadth of sponsor experience — across trial designs, regulatory environments, and therapeutic categories — provides a comparative depth of insight that is rare in individual physician consultants.

His MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University gives him a second fluency that most clinicians lack: the ability to analyze pharmaceutical assets, strategic decisions, and business trade-offs with the same rigor he brings to clinical science. For attorneys, investors, and pharmaceutical executives, that combination is precisely what difficult decisions require.

MASH and Cardiometabolic Expertise

Dr. Weston has developed particular depth in metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a disease category that has emerged as one of the most active areas in pharmaceutical development. His trial experience encompasses the full histological endpoint landscape — NAS scoring, fibrosis staging, non-invasive biomarkers, and the evolving FDA guidance on surrogate and clinical outcome endpoints for MASH programs.

His cardiometabolic expertise extends to major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) outcomes research, GLP-1 receptor agonist programs, obesity therapeutics, and type 2 diabetes — providing a comprehensive view of the interconnected disease states that define modern metabolic medicine and the litigation arising from it.

Expert Witness and Litigation Support

Dr. Weston's expert witness work is grounded in the same precision that governs clinical trial conduct: rigorous review of the available evidence, defensible analysis, and clear communication of complex science to non-scientific audiences. He has provided IME services, record review, case assessment, and expert testimony across pharmaceutical product liability, mass tort, and personal injury matters.

He understands the legal workflow — including conflict check protocols, work product considerations, deposition preparation, and trial testimony dynamics — and structures his engagements to integrate cleanly into the demands of active litigation.

Pharmaceutical and Biotech Advisory

KPMD Research was established to bring Dr. Weston's clinical and strategic expertise to pharmaceutical companies, emerging biotechs, and institutional investors who require physician-level insight as a direct input to high-stakes decisions. His advisory work spans clinical program design, indication selection, regulatory strategy, pipeline valuation, and medical affairs strategy.

Scientific services — including biostatistics, regulatory writing, and scientific publication support — are provided in association with Calix Sciences, LLC, which Dr. Weston founded to serve the growing demand for specialized scientific services in the cardiometabolic domain.
